Welcome to Day 13 of 13 Days of Christmas Songs 2025. Today I Bring you Pentatonix with the songs Christmas Classics Medley and Humankind from the album Christmas in the City, originally released on October 24, 2025.
Pentatonix is an American acappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Matt Sallee and Kevin Olusola. The group is famous for doing covers of modern works or Christmas songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with original material in the form of things like vocal harmonies, scat singing, vocal percussion and beatboxing. Pentatonix was formed in 2011 and subsequently won the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. When Sony’s Epic Records dropped the group after The Sing-Off the group launched its YouTube channel, distributing its music through Madison Gate Records.
I don’t remember when I first heard of them but it was a couple years ago definitely. I’ve listened to them off and on since then, and while I’m not the biggest fan of them personally I do recognize all the time and effort they put into their works, with one of my favorites by them being their cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, which also includes elements of Disturbed’s cover of it (my personal introduction to the song). Originally The Bass Gang was gonna be the featured group but I decided on Pentatonix as I wanted to feature more females here & felt the representation there was lacking. As for the Christmas songs after listening to the album today (which I didn’t find that good) these were the two I liked the most from it.
I hope you enjoyed Day 13 as well as 13 Days of Christmas Songs 2025 as a whole. I won’t be doing one next year as to be honest it was hard finding new artists to feature this year. Hopefully by the time I do this again more will have come out by then, making my job easier. Merry Christmas all.
